TeJay was on a ride that was going to do more than defend the Jersey. He was experiencing the Yellow Jersey giving him wings to fly up the mountain. With about 3 kilometers to go, he gained the escort of a rather large American flag being carried along in the Coloradans honor. Van Garderen crossed the line three seconds faster than his countryman, Talansky, to take the stage victory and all but insure his final victory in Denver.
