Rio Olympics: Cupping

I first notice the large hickey like marks on some of the male gymnasts and wonder what the purple circles were all about.  Now the American media is all obsessed with this "new fangled" treatment for sore muscles.  To me it is a throw back to the days of leeches and blood letting.  In fact the glass domes are nearly identical to the heated ones from the Victorian age that removed "bad humors" from the sick.  Apparently the old adage the if you don't remember your history, you are doomed to repeat it applies to medicine as well.  This is Michael Phelps (USA) submitting to what must be a rather painful "cure."

This is a small watercolors and ink painting measuring just 4"x6" and was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  This painting and all of my Olympics artwork will be available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting just follow the direct link at the end of this post.
