Rio Olympics: It Took a Lot to Get Here

The Olympics can be about so much more than sport.  In fact it almost always is.  Some times it can be about James Nyang Chiengniek from the South Sudan, who is racing as a member ot the Olympic Refugee Team - a new designation for these Games.  Chiengniek fled his country when he was just thirteen years old during the civil war in Sudan.  If he had stayed, he would most certainly have become another of the "Lost Boys," the child warriors of the war.  Instead he is in Rio about to race a qualifying heat in the 400 Meters.  He came in dead last in the heat, but it is so much more of an accomplishment than whomever will be taking home the Gold in the finale.

This is a small watercolors and ink painting measuring just 4"x6" and was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  This painting and all of my Olympics artwork will be available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting just follow the direct link at the end of this post.
