Perhaps sensing the eminant catch by the peloton, Toms Skujins (Trek-Segafredo) left his break away companions on the lower slopes of the Cote de Trois-Epis. Skujins had only 36 kilometers to the finish, with just one more catagorized climb to go, so he has a slim chance of taking this attack to the end. At this point, his only companion is the neutral service vehicle. If he gets enough of a gap, his team car will take over the duty of caring for the Latvian national champion.
