It was the Italian women that were the first to truly threaten the lead of the British. As the trio of Elisa Longo Borghini, Elena Cecchini and Tatiana Guderzo approached the time check, it was clear that they were on a race winning time. Unfortunately, fate intervened when Longo Borghini had a flat tire. She was able to chase back onto her teammates, but it slowed them down so that they just missed over taking the British team. That meant that they would just miss the podium as well.
