Once Tom Boonen (OPQS) had seen that Thor Hushovd (BMC), Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) and others were in a strong break away up the road, he jumped out of the peloton on one of the harder cobbled sections and powered his way up the road on his own. Boonen has won this race four times in his career and he was eager to be the first to claimed the Cobble Trophy for a record setting fifth time.
