Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) has a reputation of being a gifted descender, a gift he decide to use on the final big downhill of the stage. He must have figured that Chris Froome (Team Sky) would be nervous after his crash in Stage 6, a crash that left him bloodied and in need of stitches (and not because he was laughing). Nabali started the day in 6th place around a minute down on Froome's Malliot Jeune and a good head start up the final climb might be just the trick to take over the overall lead.
