After his erstwhile breakaway, Paul Ourselin (Cofidis), companion had sat up Pierre Thierry (Arkea-B&B Hotels) figured he would carry on with his effort. Most likely that decision will earn him the most combative prize for the opening stage of the Criterium du Dauphine. As he passed the 45 kilometers to go point, he found his soigneur and some nutrition to help him continue his solo fight.
