Paris Nice, Stage 3: A Just Reward

A little background to explain the title; Ivan Garcia (Bahrain McLaren) has been spending the last two days on the front of the peloton setting up the race for his teammates.  So, today, it was his turn to race for himself.  And he did it in spades, out sprinting the seven time winner of the Maillot Vert of the Tour de France, Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe).  Rounding out the top three was Andrea Pasqualon of one of the wild card teams, Circus-Wanty Gobert.  Ultimately, the finale didn't change the standings on the GC or any of the other jersey competitions.  Again the empty stands didn't quench the excitement of the sprint or the value of Garcia's victory.

Amgen ToC, Stage 5: His First Ever

His team must have know something was about to happen for Ivan Garcia (Bahrain-Merida), they had been on the front most of the day driving to pace to pull back the break away.  And they were right! Garcia had the legs to hold off Maximilliano Richeze (Deceuninck-Quickstep) and Serio Higuita (EF Education First) to take his first win in a Pro Tour race.  The final climb had dispatched the marquee sprinters, but it was still a hard fast sprint to the line for the young Spaniard.  Deceuninck-Quickstep finally had its winning streak broken, but only by about a bike length.  They still had two men in the top four on the stage!

Bergen 2017, U23 Men's Road Race: Time to Pull Them Back

With just four laps left to race, the Spanish team decided it was time to chase down the remnants of the early break.  They wanted to set it up for a bunch sprint for the finale in hopes that their sprinter, Ivan Garcia, would be able to take out the win for Espana.  Garcia had just missed on the stage of this year's Vuelta in to his hope town of Gijon, I am sure he would love to redeem that effort with a win today.

This is a small watercolors and ink painting measuring just 4"x6" and was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  This painting and all of my Olympics artwork will be available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  It is only $75 USD and international shipping is available.

Vuelta, Stage 19: Finally!

Thomas de Gendt (Lotto Soudal) has been in multiple breaks in this Vuelta and finally he got his stage victory.  It was a bit heartbreaking for Ivan Garcia (Bahrain-Merida), the stage ended in his home town.  Garcia had attacked the rest of the break with twenty kilometers left to race.  It kept looking like he would be able to solo to the line for his first Grand Tour stage win, and doing it on roads he had ridden has a kid.  He jumped first, but de Gendt had the power to get around the local boy, who finished the day in third.  Still given that he is a neo-phyte, it was some big name company that he crossed the line with.  It was the former World Champion, Rui Costa (UAE) who tooked second on the day.
