Tour, Stage 13: Waiting in the Wings

I may be revealing my theatre background with this title.  I have worked as a scenic artist and a set designer and then I also have the great pleasure of being married to the actress, Bridget Gethins (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0315220/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1).  So the title refers to the position of Lennard Kamna (Bora-Hansgrohe) who has sat on the wheel of Daniel Felipe Martinez (EF Pro Cycling) as he bridged up to Kamna's teammate, Maximilian Schachmann.  Martinez had to just ignore the other German from Bora has he went in search of the stage victory atop the Puy Mary Pas de Peyrol.  Martinez's team had put three guys in the break and he was the third to attack in hopes of the stage.  Bora-Hansgrohe obviously had two guys in the break and they were still there with just two kilometers to race.  Odds are one of the two would take the stage.

This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available though my website at www.greigleach.com, or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of this post.  Since it is an original it is first come first served.  The painting was created using Yarka St Petersburg watercolors from Richesonart.com. The work sells for $75 plus shipping. And yes, international shipping is available.

Tour, Stage 13: Climbing Alone Now

Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) had dropped the only guy who could come close to holding his wheel on the climb up Col de Neronne.  At the top of the climb there were bonus seconds on offer, but that was not what the German climber was after.  He has slipped to far down the general classification to be aided by eight seconds, he was after the win atop the next climb for stage honors.  It is comforting to see virtually everyone taking their mask wearing seriously as they stand on the side of the road.  I've seen very few without a mask, and just a few more that don't seem to get that you have to cover your mouth AND your nose.

Tour, Stage 13: In the Picture

You must know by now that I enjoy a good pun, particularly when I can use it in a painting title. Plus, if you've ever wondered how all of these great photographs are shot during bike races, this is how.  It takes a special photographer to hang off the back of a motorcycle as he concentrates on getting the shot with out knowing where the road goes, or just how fast the driver is going to have to go.  These two, Nielson Powless (EF Pro Cycling) and Maximilian Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe) were the next to ride away from the now splintering break away.  With twenty kilometers left to go, and the main peloton over ieght minutes back, it was going to be one of the guys in the break who would win the day.  With that knowledge, it was time to try and become the guy who would claim the day.  For Powless, in his first Tour, this is the third time he has gone it a break, would he have the same good fortune that Hirschi (Sunweb) did on this third try yesterday?  Spoiler...  He did not.

Richmond 2015 UCI Worlds: Up Governor's Hill

The U23 Men's Road Race always had a breakaway up the road, but the cast seemed to continual alter.  The big German, Maximillian Schachmann, used his time trialing skills to bridge across to the remaining duo on the front of the Kazakh, Oleg Zemlyakov and the original breakaway member, Jose Luis Rodriquez of Chile.  Schachmann brought some much needed power to the effort just as the trio hit the flatest section of the course.

This is an original small watercolor and ink painting that was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  These paintings are created live while watching the races through a feed provided by the Richmond 2015 Worlds organization.  For two more days, you will be able to watch me create the works live at the Fanfest area at 5th and Marshall Streets near the finish line.  You can also purchase either the originals or one of two different sizes of prints while you are there, or later at www.richmond.com.

Richmond 2015 UCI Worlds: Pushing It Home

Germany had a find reputation for producing strong riders against the clock.  Maximillian Schachmann can add his name to the likes of three time World Time Trial Champion Tony Martin and former Hour Record Holder, Jens Voigt.  Schachmann faced rising winds as the day progressed so he just didn't have the legs to unseat the Dane, but his ride was enough to claim silver at the line, and ultimately to claim it on the day.

This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  The paintings are for sale each day at the Downtown Fanfest in the Greater Richmond Convention Center at 5th and Marshall Streets in Richmond, VA.  There are originals and two different sizes of prints being offered for sale starting at $20.00 USD. Eventually, they will be available through www.richmond.com.
