Paris Nice, Stage 5: Conceding

Ryan Mullen (Trek-Segafredo) was starting to dangle off the back of the early four man break.  When the band finally snapped, he was joined by Anthony Turgis (Total Direct Energie).  The two fist bumped their solidarity as they drifted back to the peloton with 19 kilometers left to race.  They thought it best to concede the effort of the break was doomed and begin cooling down as they tucked back into the peloton for the end of the stage.

This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available though my website at www.greigleach.com, or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of this post.  Since it is an original it is first come first served.  The painting was created using Yarka St Petersburg watercolors from Richesonart.com. The work sells for $75 plus shipping. And yes, international shipping is available.

Paris Nice, Stage 2: Riding Away

The crosswinds were playing their part again today.  This group had managed to drop a number of the big names (with big expectations) of this year's Paris Nice.  They were building a 20 second lead on a number of contenders.  Leading the push to pull away were Mads Schmidt (Israel Start Up Nation) and Mads Pedersen, current World Champion (Trek-Segafredo).  Some of those benefitting from their efforts were the race leader Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), Nils Politt (Israel Start Up Nation) and Segio Higuita (EF Pro Cycling).  While still cold, it was nice to see the sun peak out and cast some shadows on the race.

Paris Nice, Stage 4 Cautiously

Richie Porte (BMC) isn't having the Paris Nice that he wanted.  As is the tradition in any stage race, he is wearing number 1 as the defending champ from last year's edition of the race, but he is far from number one this year.  Porte lost big chunks of time in the first two stages of the race and has seemed to have just packed it in since then.  Even today, on an uphill individual time trial, he seemed not to have the heart to take on the stage (or the wet course).  But I guess the thinking is, " Why risk injury in a losing cause... after all it is a long season."

This is a small watercolors and ink painting measuring just 4"x6" and was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  This painting and all of my Olympics artwork will be available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  It is only $75 USD and international shipping is available.

Paris Nice Stage 2 In All Kinds of Weather

The peloton is sure hoping the nick name of Paris Nice - The Race to the Sun - proves true  It was difficult to tell which was the road and which was the water filled gully along the road's edge  With the strength of the quintet up the road even Team Sky put a man on the front - Michal Golas  Adding to their will to ride as fast as they can was one of the main contenters - Richie Porte (BMC) was a good four minutes behind the peloton  Haimar Zubeldia (Trek Segafredo) waits in the wings to add to his "protected man" Alberto Contador  I am sure the Spaniard welcomes the chance to put minutes between himself and one of his rivals

I apologize for the lack of punctuation but the gremlins are still denying me periods commas semi-colons and question marks  Perhaps I will devise a work around before the race reaches the Mediterranean Sea

Paris Nice Final Stage: Finishing in Polka Dots

Thomas De Gendt (Lotto Soudal) was one of the few riders who knew that the jersey he started the time trial with would still be his at the end of the day.  De Gendt had worked hard yesterday to make sure that he would go out as the King of the Mountains in the 72nd Race to the Sun, or as the reflective water on the road shows, the Race to the Rain.

This is a small original watercolor and ink painting, along with all of my art of the 72nd Paris Nice, is available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting, just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  If you are enjoying reading about bike races with the accompanying artwork please be sure to check out my recently published, Book de Tour - Art of the 101st Tour de France.  The book is available through virtually every online bookseller around the world.  Just google the title to find out where you can get your copy while avoiding international shipping charges.
