Nairo Quintana left everyone behind on his way up to the highest point of the 100th Tour de France, he crested the Col de Pailheres alone in a screaming crowd of cycling fanatics, many whom had been camping on the mountain top for days. None too few of them had been drinking since they got there but the Gendarmes kept everything under control. He set off back down the other side with about two minutes on Pierre Rolland who was riding to get back into his Polka Dot Jersey he would have succeed save for Chris Froome. But then there are a lot of members of the peloton saying, "I would have ___ save for Chris Froome. However, he will start the Stage 9 in polka dots since Froome will be decked out in yellow. Tour Stage Eight: Who Are You?
Christophe Riblon jumped from his fellow break away riders and set off to a hoped for solo victory repeating his feat in the 2010 Tour de France. He was quite surprised to look over his shoulder to find a young diminutive Columbia storming up the mountain behind him. Nairo Quintana had jumped from the Sky lead peloton and road up the side of the Col like it was a flat straight road, he actually had to brake for the corners going uphill. Even the race referee popped up out of the director's car to watch the display of climbing by the 23 year old. Tour Stage Eight: Fighting
Daryl Impey started the day hoping that the Malliot Jaune would give him wings, and it may very well have, but they were no match for the wattage of Team Sky. You and Daryl can just see the tail end of the peloton slipping out of his grasp along with the hard earned golden fleece. He could take comfort that by the time Chris Froome attack the remaining peloton, it was comprised of only five climbers, one was Chris himself. Sadly, at his point there is 5 kilometer to go on this climb, and there is still one more to go to the finishing line.
