With Richie Porte losing ground, the expected course of action for the race leader, Vincenzo Niblai (Astana) would be to get into a rhythm and watch the others with him, to defend his position. Having watched Nibali in the 2013 Giro d'Italia, I know that is not his style. He won mountain stages in the Pink Jersey of race leader then, I am sure he wanted to win a mountain top stage in Yellow in the Tour. So as the rest of the contenders played watch and wait, Nibali attacked. No one could catch his brutal acceleration, he was off alone to catch the remaining two men that were up the road. This bold move was done under the eyes of both the race referee and the TV Moto. This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that is available through my artist website at
