The day's trio of escapees had built up over six minutes on the peloton, but the time they left the highway, the gap was reversing. It was amusing to watch them blow through the toll booth, but then I guess their toll was the effort of staying away from the teams of the sprinters. I did notice that there was a designated lane for bicycles to pass through the toll booth, I wonder if they have to pay like the cars. Mirco Maestri (Bardiani CSF), Segey Firsanov (Gazprom-Rusvelo), and Marco Marcato (UAE Emirates) had little chance of succeeding, but it would be even lower if they stayed back with the peloton. Today was slated to be one for the sprinters.

With the start of the Giro d'Italia, I am crowd funding my third cycling art book through Kickstarter. I could use your support in making this book get made, please consider supporting the project here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1335072134/art-of-cycling-100th-giro-ditalia. This will be just one of the hundred plus paintings that will be included.
