Once the early breakaway was back in the peloton, there were attacks caught and gone again over and over. None were able to stay away since the sprinters had decided this was another day for them to shine. After all, they had put a lot of effort into still being there after three climbs of Mengler Hill. Ide Schelling (XDS-Astana) started this move. He was joined by Pablo Torres (UAE Team Emirates), Bjorn Koerdt (Picnic-PostNL) and Alastair Mackeller (EF Education-EasyPost). Unfortunately for the Dutch rider, the others were there to prevent him from getting away on behalf of the sprinters on their respective teams. Moments after I painted this, the peloton was back on their wheels.
This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available through my website at greigleach.com or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of the post to purchase the painting above. Since it is an original work of art, it is a first come first served reality. The work sells for $95 USD including shipping, but, yes, international shipping is both available and extra.
