Tour, Stage 9: Watching the Tour with Dad
The crowds along nearly every kilometer of the Tour have been both huge and orderly. I just loved this father holding his son so that he could get a good look at the peloton as it climbed by. Today is Bastille Day (celebrating French Independence) and I am sure Dad wanted to show his son a Frenchman wearing the Maillot Jaune (the last time that happened was in 2011). Michael Morkov, Enric Mas and Dries Devenyns were escorting their leader (and race leader) Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quick Step) along the race course on a relative day off. A large break was up the road that didn't threaten his lead even slightly.
This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available though my website at www.greigleach.com, or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of this post. Since it is an original it is first come first served. The painting was created using Yarka St Petersburg watercolors from Richesonart.com. The work sells for $75 plus shipping. And yes, international shipping is available.

Giro, Stage 20: Two Guys, Two Minutes
The last two members of the early break were, Dries Devenyns (Quickstep) and Dylan Teuns (BMC). The pair had gotten to the valley floor between the last two climbs of the 100th Giro d'Italia with a two minute advantage over the gruppa maglia rosa. Devenyns may have been looking to help his teamate, Bob Jungels, regain the Maglia Bianca, but Teuns was on the front looking for stage glory for himself. I have enjoyed seeing all of the pink decorations along the course of each and every stage. Today it seemed to be the day for the pink pennants to festoon the yards along the roadside.

Giro, Stage 17: Going Together
Strong riders can do big things, even when they don't intend to. Tejay van Garderen (BMC) and Dries Devenyns (Quickstep) road off the front of the large break away seemingly without effort nor intent. The pair seemed to be engrossed in their conversation and left it to those behind to catch back up to them, if they could. Van Garderen isn't having the Giro he had hoped for, sitting 32nd over all, and a stage win today would do wonders for him and the team.

Giro, Stage 15: A Quick Peek
Jeremy Roy (FDJ) takes a quickl peek under his arm to see if the peloton was closing in on this group of escapees. With the Frenchman are Moreno Hofland (Lotto Soudal), Eugert Zhupa (Wilier-Triestina) - it feels like he has been in every break of the Giro, Jan Barta (Bora-Hansgrohe) and bringing up the rear, Dries Devenyns (Quickstep). This quintet was able to get a handful of seconds on the peloton, but were eventually reeled back in like several earlier attempts by others. It seems that yet again, the peloton had a very specific group in mind that they were going to allow to form a break. This was not one of the groups it had in mind.

Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne: On the Hunt
The constant turns, short climbs and sections of pave had split the peloton into numerous groups, With a break away of roughly eight guys up the road, it was the second group of twenty that held most of the favorites. At this point, they were being lead by Tony Martin (Katusha) sporting his new team colors, coincidentally, it was his former teammate, Dries Devenyns (Quickstep) who had just swung of the front to let Martin pull the peloton along. Unfortunately, Martin crashed shortly after I painted this, skinning his face on the asphalt, and dropping back into the following peloton. His crashed was caused by the forming echelon and the crowd of riders trying to find shelter from the wind.

Binche-Chimay-Binche: Turning the Corner
Once his teammate Vegard Stake Laengen (IAM Cycling) was finally back in the peloton, it was Dries Devenyns who went off the front pulling Sep Vanmarcke (LottoNL Jumbo) along. The pair opened up a bit of a gap, but there were too many sprinters with designs for the win. Add to that, FDJ had been covering every move of the day in opens of delivering their sprinter, Arnaud Demare, to the line.

E3 Harelbeke: Dropping Off
The early break of four riders quickly became three as Sjoerd Van Ginnekin (Roompot) dropped off of the pace as they ascended the Kapelberg. It was Dries Devenyns (IAM Cycling) that lifted the pace on the climb, fortunately for them, Sean De Bie (Lotto Soudal) and Kristian Sbaragli (MTN-Qhubeka) were able to hold the Belgium rider's wheel. The foursome had an avantage of four minutes on the peloton earlier in the race, but now it gap was only a minute between the two groups.

Paris-Nice Stage 7: Who Is That?
AG2R, the team that has the Yellow Jersey, had to ride hard on the front to defend Betancur's Jersey and chase down any threads to his lead. You can see Villermoz look over at the attacking Dries Devenyns (Giant Shimano) to see if he was one of the riders close to his man on GC. Since he wasn't they knew they could let him go and dare one of the other teams to chase him down. While they didn't want to lose time, they also didn't need to win the stage either. It was up to the others to attack and go for stage wins in hopes of taking back the Yellow Jersey. This is an original watercolor and ink postcard that could be yours by visiting my artist website, www.greigleach.com. Or you could just follow the direct link at the end of this post.
