Rio Olympics: A Golden Moment

The duo of Jakob Fuglsang (Denmark) and Greg Van Avermaet (Belgium) were able to catch the fading Rafal Majka (Poland).  The duo left the Polish rider behind, but it was Van Avermaet who outsprinted the Dane for the Olympic Gold, with Fuglsang taking Silver and Majka having to settle for Bronze.

Rio Olympics: Chasing Gold

This duo of Jakob Fuglsang (Denmark) and Greg Van Avermaet (Belgium) had managed to drop the others they had been with and went off in search of the lone rider up the road.  With one guy ahead of them, they knew they were racing for silver and bronze, unless they could catch Rafal Majka (Poland).

Rio Olympics: The One Upright

On the final descent, it was Vincenzo Nibali (Italy), Sergio Henao (Colombia) and Rafal Majka (Poland) who went over the top off the front.  Only Majka made it to the bottom without crashing.  Majka road hard towards the finish on his own with just nine kilometers left to race.

Rio Olympics: One More Time

With everyone back in at least the front group.  It was time to go up the final climb of the Olympic road race.  Leading the way is the Jakob Fuglsang (Denmark) who usually rides in support of the man behind him, Vincenzo Nibali (Italy) although, not today.

Steve Cummings (Great Britain), a late addition to the GB Olympic team worked hard on the front pulling back the break away, on his wheel a member of the Italian team.

Rio Olympics: Back Underway

Richie Porte (Australia) continued his bad luck from the Tour de France.  Today he had mechanicals almost every time he crossed the short cobbled section on course.  Later he would crash out on the penultimate descent of the day.

Rio Olympics: Quite the View

The early break in the Men's Road Race was six riders strong, including; S.E. Bystrom (Norway), Michael Kwiatkowski (Poland), Jarlinson Pantano (Colombia), Michael Albasini (Switzerland), Simon Geschke (Germany), and Paulo Kochetkov (Russia).  The group gained over seven minutes before those behind began the chase.
