Tour '25, Stage 10: What Will Happen?

That was the question on everyone's mind as Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) as they approached the final kilometer of the climb.  Of course, it was Ben Healy who was most interested in how these two decided to race the final meters up the Puy de Sancy.  If one attacks the other, they will most likely get to the line in time for Pogacar to keep yellow.  If they don't, the jersey will change shoulders again.  Shortly after I painted this they were joined by Lenny Martinez.  I think we learned why Vingegaard nor Pogacar hadn't attacked on either of the final climbs, neither had enough left to sustain an attack.  And because of that, Ben Healy of EF Education-EasyPost, will wear the Maillot Jaune when racing resumes on Wednesday.

Tour '25, Stage 10: Is It Enough?

Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) had done all he could to but as much time between himself and the group that contained the Maillot Jaune.  He has spent most of the day in the virtual yellow jersey, but it depends now on what happens from the peloton to see if he will have the real jersey of race leader over tomorrow's rest day.  He has ridden on the front over the last two climbs (including most of the way up the final one) but couldn't hold the pace once the attacks sprung out from his erstwhile companions.  He held on for third place earning an extra four bonus seconds.  But will it be enough to claim the lead in this Tour de France.  Short answer, it was.

Tour '25, Stage 10: He Was Free to Fly

After the team had fought to a draw on the previous climb, the word went out to Adam Yates (Visma-Lease a Bike) that he was now free to fly.  He has spent the day sitting on the back of the breakaway, not contributing nor sticking his nose in the wind.  He was there to be one of two teammates up the road for Vingegaard to bridge up to should he be able to drop Pogacar.  Since that wasn't happening, Yates attacked his breakaway companions at the base of the final climb.  He was the most rested of the group and put that to use on the way up the Puy de Sancy.  He claimed the stage victory (the first for the team) by nine seconds over Thymen Arensman (Ineos-Grenadiers).  He cherished the opportunity.  It is his first Tour stage win in six years!  When we get back to racing after the rest day, I am sure he will be all the more willing to work for his team leader, Vingegaard.
