Tour de France 23, Stage 11: He's Still Out There

I'm not sure why Daniel Oss (TotalEnergies) went into the early break away, but deep into the stage he was still out there.  Just a kilometer or two ago, the man who had started the break, Audrey Amador (EF Education-EasyPost) waved his farewell with a smile.  Undaunted, Oss continued on.  He stayed out there until the peloton started revving up the speed for the sprint finale with roughly fifteen kilometers to race.  I seriously doubt he will still be there to lead out Peter Sagan who hopes to win one more stage in the Tour before his retirement at the end of the year.

This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available through my website at greigleach.com or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of the post to purchase the painting above. Since it is an original work of art, it is a first come first served reality. The painting was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.Richesonart.com. The work sells for $95 USD including shipping, but yes international shipping is both available and extra.

TDF, Stage 3: A Yellow Lead Out

Oft times those that are designated as a race leader on a team will find a chance to pay back their teammates in any way they can.  I am sure that was part of what Mathieu Van Der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) was up to when he hit the front of the peloton with just two kilometers left to race.  He was trying to act as lead out man for his team's sprinter, Tim Merlier.  Clearly he was a little too fast out of the final corner finding only two Ineos-Grenadiers riders behind when he looked for his teammates.  Was he going to go ahead and try for another stage win?

Tour Down Under, Stage 6: No Organization

As the peloton got into the final two kilometers it seemed that all of the sprint teams lost control of the group at once.  All of this Tour and surely all season long at this point it will be two or three teams all lined out with their sprinters tacked onto the end of the train.  Today they was barely a pair of teammates together at the crest of the hill one and a half kilometers from the line.  Cameron Meyer (Mitchelton-Scott) kept pushing on figuring his teammates who regain his wheel.  He needed to deliver Caleb Ewan and his lead out man (and race leader) Daryl Impey onto the finishing straight.  Every other leadout man was jumping around trying to get their men back together.  At this point it was anyone's race, both for the stage and for the entire Tour.

Tour Stage Thirteen: Winding It Up

The Saxo group had enough time on the yellow jersey group that they could start playing tactics (or cat and mouse to quote my favorite announcers), with Omega Pharma playing the first card attacking inside of two kilometers to go.  The Saxo Tinkoff guys watched him go, they were riding for GC while OPQS was riding for Cavendish and another stage win.  Team Belkin was just happy to let others bring their GC guys up in the standings.  The only other major players were the three Cannondale guys including Peter Sagan.  This is an original watercolor and ink postcard that is available for purchase through my artist website.  Just follow the direct link at the end of this post to get your piece of the 100th Tour de France.

Tour Stage Ten: Into the Right Hander

With under one kilometer to go the fast moving peloton had to negotiate a right hand turn and then line up for the sprint.  Lotto cam in hard on the inside with Cavendish following his last member of his lead out, Sagan tucked on his wheel and Kittle tucked in on Greipel's.  Sagan got there without his train and Cavendish realized it was too early to go and went in search of Greipel's wheel.  Cavendish ended up getting tied up in traffic and bumping a fading lead out man on Lotto enough that he went down in front of the charging peloton.  Amazingly he wasn't seriously hurt and the rest of the 182 riders managed to remain upright.  This is an original water color and ink postcard that can be yours by going to my artist website.  Just follow the direct link at the end of this post to get your piece of the 100th Tour de France.

Giro Day Nineteen: What Are You Doing?

The way I am creating this work is to watch the RAI TV feed and then pause the video when something catches my eye.  I don't speak Italian so I am not always sure of what the commentators are talking about (I am getting better at understanding as the Giro goes on).  So when I paused this I couldn't figure out why Cavendish had come to the front of the peleton or why his fellow Omega Pharma Quickstep teammate had just swung off the front.  After finishing this piece and restarting the broadcast, I learned what was going on, one of the Intermediate Sprints was about 100 meters ahead of this image.  This is an original watercolor and ink painting and can be yours by visiting my artist website.  Just follow the direct link at the end of this post.
