As the break started up the penultimate climb of the day, the catagory 3 Sell a Valcardo Ravaseletto, only Enrico Barbin (Bardiani CSF) could go with the attack put in by Valerio Conti (UAE Team Emirates). Conti seemed surprised to look back and not find any of the others, he may not have even realized that Barbin was there. With another 20 kilometers to ride, neither held at much hope for holding of the peloton, a peloton that was only about a minute behind. Conversely, you can't surrender. With the possible exception of surrendering to the pain in your body - although cyclist don't seem to feel pain the way most mortals do.
