The title might be a bit misleading after all there are a total of six Americans in the 113th Tour de France. But as the peloton came through the finish line for the penultimate time, it was the American Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates) leading with his compatriot on a rival team Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) on his wheel. Jorgenson was followed in turn by the Maillot Jaune on the shoulders of his team leader Jonas Vingegaard. I think the entire crowd at the side of the road was looking back to see McNulty's leader, Tadej Pogacar, just a few bikes further back. The second lap of the finishing circuit seemed to be raced to a draw with all of the favorites watching each other for the twelve-kilometer loop through the streets of Barcelona.
