Gent-Wevelgem '25: With a Slight Advantage

As with most of the Classics, the day started with a group eight guys getting of the front together.  Today was no different. Sam Maisonobe (Cofidis), Jasha Suttelin (Jayco-Alula), Max Walker (EF Education-EasyPost), Samuel Leroux and Alex Coleman (TotalEnergies), and Marco Haller (Tudor Pro Cycling) build up a four-minute lead over the peloton at one point.  By the time Victor Campenaerts (Visma-Lease a Bike) joined the escapees, they had just under a minute's advantage with seventy-four kilometers yet to go.  It wasn't looking like it would be a day for the breakaway.  But then, it rarely is.

This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available through my website at greigleach.com or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of the post to purchase the painting above. Since it is an original work of art, it is a first come first served reality. The work sells for $95 USD including shipping, but, yes, international shipping is both available and extra.

Yorkshire 2019 - Mixed Relay: Less Than a Second

As the German men approached the first time check they were just a half second off the pace of the Brits.  The trio was led by Jasha Sutterlin followed in turn by Nils Polit and Tony Martin.  Martin is a four time World Champion in the Individual Time Trial, but is suffering from the lingering effects of a serious crash in this year's Vuelta d'Espania.  When I got to watch him race in the Worlds here in Richmond, Virginia, he was still recovering from a bad crash tin the Tour de France.  In both cases, he was able to contribute to the German team before having to drop off the pace.

Tour Down Under, Final Stage: Down the Shore

I heard this New Jersey expression the other day.  Going down the shore is what I would call going to the beach.  It seemed like the perfect title for this group turning the corner to run along the coast on their way to Snapper Point.  With an almost sure bet that today would be about the climbers, it didn't stop these seven from going on the offensive from the very start of the stage.  The only one with a chance of winning on the day was Danny Van Poppel (Jumbo-Visma).  He is wearing the blue sprinter's points jersey on load from the race leader but if he takes the sprint points on offer he would still need to score points atop Willunga Hill.  Joining the Dutchman are Jasha Sutterlin (Movistar), Nick White (UniSA-Australia), Gediminas Bagdonas (Ag2r La Mondiale) among others.

Tour Down Under, Stage 4: Tit for Tat

Like every break away that sees a chance for victory, this one broke down as the stronger climbers started attacking the others.  It was the local rider on a French team, Miles Scotson (Groupama-FDJ) who launched the aggressions.  Initially, it was Scotson and the Austrian, Herman Pernsteiner (Bahrain-Merida) that gapped the other four.  Only Jasha Sutterlin (Movistar) that was able to claw is way back to the duo's wheels.  Not content to just catch back on, Sutterlin attacked the others, giving 'tit for tat.'  However, as it oft happens, the aggressions spelled the doom of the break as those behind closed in.

Tour Down Under Stage 2: Setting a Good Rhythm

Stage two featured another long solo effort, this time be Jasha Sutterlin (Movistar).  It ended with the same rather predictable results after a nearly 100 kilometer effort.  With the stage ending with a climb up to Paracombe all of the GC contenders would be looking to put time into their rivals.  Their teams weren't about to let a single rider spoil the party.

This is a small watercolors and ink painting measuring just 4"x6" and was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  This painting and all of my Olympics artwork will be available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  It is only $75 USD and international shipping is available.
