Paris Roubaix Femmes: Poursuivantes

After crashed, mud splatters, and fishtailing in the mud this rather large group of chasers began to get themselves organized into a full on chase of the lone woman up the road.  It was Lisa Brennauer (Ceratizit-WNT) and Christine Majerus (SD Worx) leading the chase both in their national champion’s jerseys.  As the road across Section 9, the Pont Thibaut a Ennevelin, they were almost two and a half minutes behind the lone leader.  With 38 kilometers left to race, it was mathematically likely that they would all catch their prey, however it is a former world champion they were hunting.

This is a small 4x6 inch original watercolor painting that is available through my website at greigleach.com or you can simply follow the direct link at the end of the post to purchase the painting above. Since it is an original work of art, it is a first come first served reality. The painting was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors from www.Richesonart.com. The work sells for $75 USD plus shipping, and yes international shipping is available.

Ronde Van Vlaanderen: "We've Got to Work Together"

Demi Vollering (Team SD Worx) seemed to be trying to get this elite group of chasers to work together.  Up the road was the two time World Champion in the individual time trial so it wasn't going to be easier to chase her down.  Their only hope was their superior strength in numbers.  It was going to be a hard sell for Vollering, her teammate, Anna Van Der Breggan was the best sprinter in the group and the World Champion on the road.  Hanging on the back seeming to be struggling was the Italian National Champioin, Elisa Longo Borghini (Trek-Segafredo). Others trying to chase down the flying Dutch woman were Marta Cavalli (FDJ Nouvelle-Aquataine Futuroscope) and her teammate Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Lisa Brennauer (Ceratizit-WNT) in her German Champion jersey.  Rounding out the group was the Australian, Grace Brown (BikeExchange).

Yorkshire 2019 - MIxed Relay: Leaving It all on the Road

Lisa Brennauer and Lisa Klein struggled to catch their breath after a truly all-out effort to put Germany into a Gold Medal position.  Clearly they had done everything in their power to hold improve on the position provided to them by their countrymen.  As they struggled to breath, they knew that only the Dutch women could out ride them.  Alas, that is exactly what happened, but their ride did earn them the Silver in the first Mixed Relay of the UCI Road World Championships.

Women's Tour of California, Final Stage: Claiming the Final One

In the end it was Hitec Products that got there sprinter, Kristen Wild, first.  As she spread her arms in victory, she was thrilled to have held off the closing Green Jersey of Marianne Vos (Boels-Dolmans) and Lisa Brennauer (Canyon SRAM).  Vos's teammate, Megan Gaurnier finished with the peloton so she successfully defended her Yellow Jersey of race leader.  The team of Boels-Dolmans managed to win two of the four leaders jerseys of the Women's Tour of California.  Chapeau!

This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that was painting using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from Jack Richeson & Company (www.richesonart.com).  This painting along with all of my cycling art, is available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting, just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  While you are at the website, be sure to check out my two cycling art books, "Book du Tour: Art of the 101st Tour de France" and, "Art of Cycling: Richmond 2015 UCI Road World Championships"

Women's Tour of California, Stage 2: Just Underway

The defending Women's Elite Women's Team Time Trial Champions were the first team that I got to see getting underway in the Team Time Trial that was Stage 2 of the Women's Amgen Tour of California.  The team of Canyon-SRAM rolled out with all six of their members including the renowned Lisa Brennauer.  As expected, they finished with the early best time, but there were still quite a number of teams to take on the 20 mile course.

This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from www.richesonart.com.  This painting along with my book, "Art of Cycling: Richmond 2015 UCI World Road Racing Championships," is available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting, just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  Remember, it is a one of a kind piece, so once it is sold, it is no longer available.

2014 UCI Worlds: Looking Around

It was a reduced peloton that came to the penultimate climb, but all of the favorites were there.  At this point it is Giorgia Bronzini (Italy) on the front, looking around to see that Lisa Brennauer (Germany), Pauline Ferrand-Prevot (France) and Marianne Vos (Netherlands) have all latched onto her wheel.  Even the race director has popped up through the sun roof of the referee's car to get a better view of the start of the action on the bell lap.  This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that is available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting, just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  While you are there, why not take the time to browse all of the artwork on offer.  International shipping is available.

2014 UCI Worlds: Willing Her Home

To quote Phil Liggett as Lisa Brennauer of Germany headed up the final 100 meters of the course, "The crowd is willing her home."  The German's ride was just fast enough to nip in ahead of the Ukrainian, Anna Solovey, and claim gold for the Elite Women's Individual Time Trial.  She now will have the honor of wearing the Rainbow Jersey of World Champion every time she lines up to race an individual time trial.  She will have that honor until the Championships come to Richmond, Virginia in the United States in 2015.  Today is her second Gold Medal of these races, she was part of the Shimano - Lulu Lemon squad that won the Women's Team Time Trial early in the week.  This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that is available through my artist website at www.greigleach.com.  To purchase this particular painting, just follow the direct link at the end of this post.  While you are there you can pre-order my 2014 Tour de France book, Book de Tour, which includes Brennauer's 4th place finishes in La Course, raced on the finally day of the Tour in Paris.
