Giro, Stage 18: Skirmishes

So the question is... "When will they develop a pen that has spell check and will check your grammar as well?"  The word I was going for was "skrimishes" not "scrimmages".   The two are totally different kinds of confrontations.  For the strong men of the formally large break away, the ascent of the Prato Nevoso was a war of attrition.  Each of this four man group put in an attack on the others.  And several found themselves dangling off the back of the quartet as well.  Reuben Plaza (Israel Cycling Academy) is just checking the eyes of Christoph Pfingsten (Bora-Hansgrohe) before having another dig.  Behind them Maximilian Schachmann (Quick Step) and Mattia Cataneo (Androni Giocattoli) wait to see what they will be able to do in response.

Giro, Stage 9: Here, Take Mine

I wish I had caught who it was that was passing a front wheel to Ruben Plaza (Israel Cycling Academy).  Teammates who are further down on general classification will aid those on the team that have a mechanical.  That is what is going on here, Plaza had a puncture to his front tire so his teammate passed his own over to him.  Plaza quickly got back underway while his teammate awaited the arrival of the Israel Cycling Acadmy team car.  Cycling is, after all, a team sport.

Giro, Stage 11: Filming the Chasers

Stage 11 went through the finishing line in Bagno di Romagna before heading out for another 50 kilometers of racing.  With the chasing group coming through the final kilometer area, it was a chance for the stationary camera to pick up the camera moto filming the chasers.  Leading the chase was Jose Jerrada (Movistar) followed by Ruben Plaza (Orica-Scott), Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) and a slew of others.  It is stunning to see what the cameramen on the back of the motorcycles go through to get the wonderful shots of the race, and what a day of racing it was, too!

Tour de France, Stage 14: Don't Even Think About It

The 14th stage of the Tour got going with a long climb and a big group breakaway living in hopes of a detente in the main peloton.  One of those to join the early break was Peter Sagan (Tinkoff Saxo).  Sagan used his climbing abilities to go with the escapees intending to be the first to cross the intermediate sprint line.  Sagan's second place helped to solidify his lead in the Maillot Vert competition, but picking up another 20 points midway through the stage surely wouldn't hurt.  Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) was already off the back on the main peloton and wasn't going to be contesting any sprints either here or at the line in Mende.  Sagan looked back over his shoulder daring either Ruben Plaza (Lampre-Merida) or Bob Jungels (Trek Factory Racing) to try and steal any of the sprint points on offer.
