Tour Femmes '25, Stage 7: Two Chasing Two

Alas, Maud Rijnbeek wasn't able to go once the stage hopefuls attack.  With two women up the road, Ruth Edwards (Human Powered Health) was working with Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek) to chase the leaders down.  As they rode both were offered a bidon from the neutral service 'water boy' which they both refused not wanting any extra weight for the final twenty-one kilometers as they climbed the Col du Granier.

Tour Femmes '25, Stage 7: Up Close

The fans lined both sides of the summit of the Cote de Saint Franc, many with their children on their shoulders, to cheer the breakaway across the top of the first climb of the day.  The break was led over the Queen of the Mountains point by yesterday's stand-out Maeva Squiban (UAE Team Emirates).  She was followed over the top by Shirin van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek), Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime), Justine Ghekiere (AG Insurance-Soudal), Mareille Meijering (Movistar) and Celia Mouel (Ceratizit).  There were three more just behind the sextet, but I can't see everyone all of the time, unlike these fans who will see everyone come over this mountain eventually.

Tour de France Femmes '24, Stage 7: Watching & Waiting

With the exception of the women up the road, all of those that mattered were keeping a close eye on each other as they climbed the Col de Saint Jean de Sixt.  Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon/SRAM) in here long sought after Maillot Jaune was keeping a very close watch on the wheel of Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime).  Vollering was over a minute behind the yellow jersey, but her climbing prowess made her a dangerous challenge to Niewiadoma's lead in the Tour de France Femmes.  On the jersey's wheel was Shirin Van Anrooij (Lidl-Trek) who is just of the lead in the race for the Maillot Blanc currently held by the woman just behind her, Puck Pieterse (Fenix-Deceuninck).  Pieterse was being aided by her teammate Pauliena Rooijakkers.  We all expected multiple attacks with just thirteen kilometers to race, but at this point they were all just watching other.  Meanwhile, two riders were flirting with both the stage win and the virtual yellow jersey.

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Women’s Race: One of These Four

This foursome of Elisa Longo Borghini (Lidl-Trek) and her teammate, Shirin Van Anrooij, along with Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx-Protime) had built up a twenty three second lead on the five chasers behind.  They in turn had another minute and a half on the remnants of the peloton.  So with just under ten kilometers to race, it seems that the winner will be one of these four women.  Longo Borghini has the advantage with a teammate in the group, but her long solo attempt may have drained too much energy from her legs.  With that, the advantage then swings to Vos, who has the best sprint of the group (all things being equal).  It will be exciting to see the race strategies play out as they draw ever closer to the flame rouge.  The one thing they can’t do is play cat and mouse and let the chasers back into the race.

Gent-Wevelgem 23, Women's Race: Can They Catch Her?

It would seem that a group of seven should be able to chase down a single escapee in the final 30 kilometers, but instead partially due to the leader's teammate, Christine Majerus (SD Worx) the gap just kept growing.  These seven including Majerus and Shirin Van Anrooij (Trek-Segafredo), Elinor Barker (Uno-X), Eugenia Bujak (UAE Team ADQ), Pfeiffer Georgi (DSM), Shari Bossuyt (Canyon SRAM) and Anna Hendersen (Jumbo-Visma) seemed unable to close the widening gap.  If they aren't careful, they will find that the rest of the peloton will be able to catch them instead.  If they do, then these women will have even less of a chance of getting onto the podium in Wevelgem.

Yorkshire 2019 - Jr Women's ITT: Sneaking Inside

Not wanting to be out done by her countrywoman, Shirin Van Anrooij (Netherlands) slide up the barriers to get around the Kazakh, Ulyana Sukhorebrik, who had started a minute before her.  Like her teammate before her Anrooij took over the race lead when she finished her ride.  However, she was only bested by one other rider ending her day with a Silver Medal for her efforts.
