Tour '26, Stage 20: Super Domestique

Isaac Del Toro (UAE Team Emirates) could not have asked for a better member of the peloton to help him on the final climb of the final mountain stage of the 113th Tour de France!  Tadej Pogacar was sacrificing his chance to claim the first ever back-to-back wins atop Alpe d'Huez to make sure that his teammate stayed in third place on the general classification and kept his Maillot Blanc of the best young rider of the Tour.  This is not normal activities for the Maillot Jaune, but then I think Pogacar has established that he is not a mere mortal cyclist.  I should note that Pogacar's lead is so large that he can afford this generous act despite the guy in second place has gone up the road.  In fact, Evenepoel finished second on the stage, but only forty seconds ahead of this jerseyed duo.  As long as they both finished the stage tomorrow, they will finish in first and third in Paris wearing their yellow and white jerseys in Paris.

Criterium du Dauphine '25, Stage 6: Looking After His Mates

It was rather amazing to watch Sepp Kuss (Visma-Lease a Bike) zoom pass most of the peloton to bring up bidons and gels to his teammates Matteo Jorgenson and Jonas Vingegaard.  They were riding through the valley before starting the final paired ascents of the day.  It was soon that the real work would begin and it was important that everyone had plenty of reserves to fuel the final effort.

Paris Roubaix '25: A Tactical Advantage

As the saying goes, there is strength in numbers.  That was definitely the case for the closing kilometers of Paris Roubiax.  After a great chase back by Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceunick) to catch back up to his teammate Mathieu van der Poel, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) found himself in a tough spot having two guys from the same team working against him.  Just the fact that Philipsen could drop back to the team car, leaving van der Poel free to keep applying the pressure.  It is no small factor that the Alpecin-Deceuninck duo have finished first and second for the past two years.  Would Pogacar be able to thwart that record?

Tour Down Under Stage 5 Racing to the Bottom

Yet again the peloton caught the break with less than six kilometers left to race   Now it was time to fly to the bottom of Willunga Hill in hopes that one's respective team leader would be able to grab victory at the summit  Luke Durbridge (Orica-Scott) looks back over his shoulder to see how his teammate Damien Howson and the rest of the "Orica boys" were doing   Ready to take over the pace making duties is Geraint Thomas (Team Sky)  Try as the two teams might they were unable to split apart the peloton as they crossed the flat lands before the final ascent

Sorry the gremlins don't like punctuation and the keyboard has fallen to their whims

Tour 2012: Thanking Hincapie

As he crossed the line, Cadel Evans reached back to shake hands with George Hincapie.  George had been out in a break away, but was called back to help keep his team leader from losing too much time on the Team Sky armada.  Hincapie wrecked during the stage, was patched up by the race doctor, and still had the strength to keep Cadel in third overall.  Hincapie road every Tour win with Lance Armstrong, but he also rode with Cadel and Contrador in their Tour victories, as well.  He is the absolute definition of a "Super Domestique".  When George Hincapie broke his silence about the accusations against Armstrong, that is when I knew it was all true.  This is an original watercolor and ink postcard that can be yours by visiting my artist website.  Just follow the direct link at the end of this post.
