The time trial is a time for big changes in the overall standings in any race, particularly a multi stage race like the Giro d'Italia. This is one of the favorites and native sons Vincente Nibali riding for the Kazakstani team, Astana. While his ride was not enough to win the stage it was enough for him to become the fifth wearer of the Maglia Rosa and the third Italian to have such an honor.
