Not only is Celia Gery (FDJ United-Suez) the French Champion, she also is the local girl in today's stage. It must have been a blast to use her descending skills on roads she must have ridden thousands of times to drop the peloton and the marquee names of the Tour Femmes. To paint these, I pause the live coverage without knowing what happens next, paint the image, and then continue watching. As soon as I hit play again, I watched as she almost went off into the trees on this bend. She did get out into the grass, but stayed upright, kept going, and kept increasing her advantage on the chasing peloton. With thirty-two kilometers to race, it may be a bit much to hope to stay away, but she dearly wanted to win near home.
