Giro, Stage 16: Barking Orders

Not quite sure what had Jasper Hansen's (Astana) nickers in a twist, but he was sure giving an earful to the riders for Orica-Scott, Katusha-Alpecin and Franco Pellizotti (Bahrain-Merida).  They seemed to be disinterested in what he has to say.  I would interpret the elbows out gesture by Orica-Scott as a shrug, as in, "So what?"  With 40 kilometers left to race, I suspect he wanted more collaboration in chasing down those up the road.

Giro, Stage 9: Caught Out

It was suspected that Bob Jungels (Quickstep) wouldn't be able to hold onto his Maglia Rosa at the top of Blockhaus, but it was a bit of a surprise to see Tejay van Garderen (BMC) dropping back to this trio.  The third rider, Franco Pellizotti (Bahrain-Merida) had been aiding his team leader, Vincenzo Nibali, but was now just hoping to survive the climb.  At this point they were only about 30 seconds down on those at the front, but there was still another seven and a half kilometers of climbing to go.  It doesn't bode will for Tejay nor the Maglia Rosa.

Giro Stage 12: Checking One More Time

Tanel Kangert (Astana) was given leave from riding for his team leader, Fabio Aru, and went off in search of a stage victory for the boys from Kazakhstan, although Kangert is an Estonian.  Kangert had first chased down the attacking Franco Pellizotti (Androni Giocattoli).  Once under the flame rouge signifying the final kilometer of the stage, he looked over his shoulder to discover that he was dropping the Italian.  Unfortunately, what he couldn't see was the charging peloton that contained both stage hopefuls and GC men who wanted the time bonuses of a podium finish.  With their umbrellas held high, the fans lining the barriers were being treated to some very aggressive racing, while the competitors had no need to fear another wet descent off of this climb.

Giro Day Eleven: Attacking Italians

While these two are apparently wearing different uniforms, they are on the same Androni-Giocattoli Venezuela team, the second cyclist is the Italian road racing champion.  These two decided that all of the contenders were too busy marking each other that they jumped up the road.  The team had the advantage of having yet another team mate up the road, who had gone with the early break of the day.  This is an original watercolor and ink postcard and can be yours in a 3 day auction on ebay.  Just follow the link at the end of this post to place your bid.
