Paris Nice 2022: The Attacks Had to Come

Many had tried to challenge the dominance of Jumbo-Visma on the final categorized climb but as long as Rohan Dennis was on the front setting the pace for his team leader, Primoz Roglic, no one had the legs to get away.  Or to even try to get away for that matter.  But once Dennis popped, and the rest of Roglic's teammates were already gone, it was time to try to take back time.  Others had already gotten away, but they were minutes behind the virtual yellow jersey of Roglic.  This is Daniel Martinez (Ineos-Grenadiers) going up the road on the final climb that didn't rate a categorization.  That didn't mean it wasn't a hard climb though.  Martinez was close enough that he was chased down, eventually.  But inroads were made on the Jumbo-Visma leader.  Yet all those that were less than a minute away didn't gain any time on the new Maillot Jaune.

Dauphine, Stage 6: Letting Them Know

It may be old school, but the chalkboard is still used to let the riders know what the time gaps are between the groups on the road.  The peloton has been chasing the large break away since the start of the day.  With 30 kilometers left to race it is useful to know just how close the escapees are.  And, yes, the team cars, the race radios, and GPS kind of make this relic unnecessary.  But I doubt it will disappear anytime soon.

Amgen ToC, Stage 3: Hunting in the Mountains

After a large breakaway had been caught before getting in to the mountains of today's stage, these two got off the front by themselves.  With 100 kilometers yet to go, Alex Hoehn (USA Cycling) and Remi Cavagna (Deceuninck-Quickstep) built up over a ten minute lead on the following peloton.  It may be too strong of a word to say that the peloton was chasing the break down.  Hoehn, had gone over the first two climbs of the day getting the maximum King of the Mountain points.  Should the pair be able to stay off the front over the rest of the days climbs, he stands a good chance of pulling on the next KOM polka dot jersey.
