Bike racing is a team sport. Today that was in evidence by Tiesj Benoot (Lotto Soudal) going out in the early break and grabbing all of the King of the Mountain points he could. Just as his teammate, Thomas De Gendt had done the day before, he was making sure none of Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) KOM rivals could gain any points to endanger his Maillot a Pois. I'm sure Benoot was hoping he could also copy De Gendt and hold of the peloton for the stage win at the end of the day. More on that later.
