Laurens Huys (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces) looked over his shoulder to see what gap he and Lorenzo Rota (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise) had built on their erstwhile break away companions. The duo had escape the others on the base of the Cote de La Redoute. With another 36 kilometers to go it remained to be seen if their minute and a half lead was going to be enough to hold off an extremely talented field in the peloton behind. He could see muich when he looked back, the bend in the road hid the others from view.
