SD Worx seemed to have a plan to set the race alight from the start of Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes. Niamh Fisher-Black was the second team member to go off the front of the peloton in hopes of drawing out the sting of the favorites. With 41 kilometers left to the line in Liege she had built up a 20 second lead on those behind. Those chasing behind had managed to split the peloton apart in their efforts to catch her. The reduced peloton still included at least two of her teammates including the Women's UCI Road World Champion.
