These three road away from the morning break away planning to fight it out on the final climb up to Campitello Matese. With over 150 kilometers (and seven and a half stage of the Giro) in their legs, Carlos Betancur (AG2R) and Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL Jumbo) started questioning whether Kristof Vandewalle (Trek Factory Racing) was doing his fair share of the work to stay away. The riders will take turns drafting off of each other, the cyclist behind the lead man will use roughly 30% less energy than the guy with his nose in the wind. Betancur and Kruijswijk didn't want to give Vandewalle a free ride that would allow him to best them on the climb.
This is a small original watercolor and ink painting that was created using Yarka St. Petersburg watercolors and Steve Quiller brushes from Jack Richeson and Company, www.richesonart.com. They are a lovely small family run art supply company that has some of my favorite media. The painting is also available for purchase through my artist website at www.greigleach.com. To purchase this particular painting, just follow the direct link at the end of this post. But don't delay, these are original one of a kind paintings and when it is gone, it is gone.
