He did it! Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck-Quick Step) has gone from having no contract and facing the end of his career, to getting pick up by his current team. He had been left off of the Tour squad until a late minute subsitution got him a start in Brittany. This fourth stage win of the 2021 Tour de France has made him equal with Eddy Merckx on career stage wins in the Tour de France. Merckx had released a statement that did point out that he was never going for stage wins, he was always racing for the Yellow Jersey in Paris, which he got five times. He then softened his tone and point out that Cav went for "washed up" to being the best sprinter in the Tour, and that should be an inspiration to all to keep chasing their dreams. I am paraphrasing of course.
Cav's lead out man, Michael Morkov had to slow a bit to make sure Cav got the win. Morkov took second just ahead of Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix).
