Apparently, Nairo Quintana (Arkea-Samsic) was doing just fine, he was merely waiting for the two big climbs of the day to go on the offensive. Half way up the Port d'Envalira he jumped clear of the large break he had been hiding with. No one in the group could match the Colombian's burst of speed when he attacked. It is a lot easier to vie for the maximum points on the top of a climb when there is no one there expect yourself. Quintana had told reporters that today he was going to take back the Maillot a Pois that he had when he was in the Alps. With this raid, he was now equal on points with just one more big climb to go.
