It was great to see Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) but in a dig with four kilometers left of the Pyrenean mountains. He opened a bit of a gap on Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) at first, but the Maillot Jaune soon got up to the Dane's wheel. The only other one to be able to handle the burst of speed was the young Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe). Now, will Vingegaard be able to drop Pogacar, or will the Slovenian smoke him in a countermove. The answer was basically neither. They came together to the line, still unable to catch the leader on the stage, but despite another dig from Vingegaard, Pogacar out sprint him to claim a couple more seconds towards his lead in the Tour de France. Dangling just off of the back of this trio is Oscar Onley (Picnic-PostNL) climbing well and moving up a place in the general classification. Lipowitz did as well, and is now the best young rider in the Tour with the abandonment from the Tour early in this stage.
