Tour '26, Stage 4: Adding to His Total

It was great to see Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural-Seguros) back vying to reclaim his Maillot a Pois that he earned back in Stage 2.  He fell apart and cede the jersey to Alex Baudin (EF Education-EasyPost).  He was able to out sprint Baudin's teammate Georg Steinhauser to get the maximum points atop the Col du Paradis.  The Bahrain-Victorious duo Robert Stannard and Vlad Van Mechelen were only able to watch the others earn points on the Category 3 climb.

Tour '26, Stage 2: A Costal Break

The first road stage of the Tour also meant it was time for the first breakaway of the 113th Tour de France.  This trio of Frank Van Den Broek (Picnic-PostNL), Felix Englehardt (Jayco-Alula) and Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural-Seguros) got away after about six kilometers as they left Tarragone.  I thought I'd try and make a joke about the breakaway riding along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea with the title.  I'm not sure I succeed.  It was a great day out for Molenaar.  By being in the break, he won the intermediate sprint and claimed the next Maillot a Pois of best climber in the Tour.  Poor Ban Den Broek cramped as he tried to sprint for those mountain points and quickly found himself back in the peloton after seventy kilometers off the front.  The other two weren't caught by the peloton for an additional sixty kilometers.  I don't know which of the two will be awarded the most combative rider prize for the stage.  Look for one of them to have a red bib number tomorrow.

Tour '26, Stage 1: Leading Off the Tour

It is the opening stage of the Tour de France in Barcelona today!  The race starts with a team time trial under new rules for the first time in the Tour de France.  The team's time will be taken by the first team member to cross the line, and all of the riders will be given their actual finishing times. So while it is most important to work together, it is a micro version of what it is to race in the Tour.  The team will work to put their team leader in the best possible position at the end of the stage.  The first team to roll down the start ramp was Caja Rural-Seguros.  They are a wild card team licensed in Spain and have returned to the Tour after a nearly 50-year break.
