Rigoberto Uran (OPQS) laid down a blistering ride finishing the day with the fastest time by a minute and 37 seconds over Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida). Perhaps more importantly, he had started the day roughly a minute behind Cadel Evans (BMC) so at this point it remained to be seen what kind of time Cadel would post. He only had to wait four minutes to know that while Evans managed a third place on the stage, he ceded a minute and 34 seconds to the Colombian. That deficit of time was enough for Uran to take over the race lead and to don the Maglia Rosa for himself and his team. Some side notes, 1. Uran finished second in the 2013 Giro while riding for Team Sky, 2. the man in third place in 2013 was Cadel Evans who slipped behind Uran in a rough time trial.
