Johan Davi Arrendondo (Trek Factory Racing) had gone in the early break and eventually had ridded himself of every single one of the other nine members of the break away, but has he got inside of the 3 K banner, he knew that Pierre Rolland (Europcar) was hot on his trail. He had been out on the front of the stage for almost 160 kilometers that included some seriously steep climbing. He was looking for the chasing Frenchman, hoping he could stay away until the summit and the finishing line.
