Gainluca Brambilla (Omega Pharma Quickstep) made a very gusty escape on the final descent of the stage, dropping like a rock down the road from Viaggiano gaining 28 seconds on the peloton on the way down into the valley. He must have had the perfect tire and tire pressure as riders behind him couldn't corner as quickly, even one Astana rider having his rear wheel slide out on him in one of the hairpin curves. Alas for Brambilla, the finish line was back up the hill and not in the valley. This is an original watercolor and ink postcard that is available for purchase at my artist website,
