While Ide Schelling (Bora'Hansgrohe) may be wearing the Maillot a Pois he is actually in second place in the King of the Mountains competition. The leader is Mathieu Van Der Poel who is also in the Maillot Jaune which will always take precedence over any other jersey. Thus Schelling was out in his third break away in as many days in order to claim just a single point to make his borrowed jersey his. Joining the Dutchman in the escape were Maxime Chevalier and Cyril Barthe (B&B Hotels) along with Jelle Wallays (Cofidis) and Michael Schar (Ag2r-Citroen). After Schelling took the single point on the first climb, the Cote de Cadoudel, he dropped back to the peloton in the knowledege that he will hold the jersey for two more days. The next stages are a flat stage void of any climbs, followed by an Individual Time Trial.
