Anthony Perez (Cofidis) was keeping a very sharp eye on Ide Schelling (Bora-Hansgrohe) as the two traded sprints for King of the Mountain points. As the duo neared the summit of the Cote de Pordic the two were even on points. Behind Jonas Koch (Intermache-Wanty Gobert) was taking full advantage of the speed the other two were building. Their efforts were helping him and the rest of the break away to stay clear of the following peloton. Schelling was able to get the better of Perez which ended up ensuring that he would hold the Maillot a Pois for a second day in his first Tour de France.
