When Geraint Thomas (Ineos-Grenadiers) crashed at about a 100 kilometers left to race in stage 3, I was about to break my own rule and paint him on the ground in pain. I stopped myself. I understand that the photographers need to shoot the moments that tell the story of the race and naturally a crash of a GC contender is news. But it has always felt ghoulish to me. So I waited to see if he was going to get back on the bike. I think to everyone watching it was a relief when he waved off the ambulance and got on his spare bike. These guys in the pro peloton are some really tough spirits!
This painting's time lapse video was aired during NBC Sports Network's broadcast of this stage of the Tour. https://twitter.com/ArtofCycling/status/1409530766095175680
