The young American (great, now I have that David Bowie song stuck in my head...) Jordan Stolz (USA) was the first speed skater to finish the 500 meter race in under 34 seconds. Naturally, he held the lead for a bit, but finished his Olympic debut in 13th place overall. He does have his best event the 1000 meter yet to go. He manage to edge out Bjorn Magnussen (Norway) to win his heat.
