Annemiek Van Vleutin (Movistar) had been on the front for the last 15 kilometers. She even turned and complained to Demi Vollering (SD Worx) to pull through. Vollering respectfully declined, perhaps pointing out that she had teammates behind trying to bridge the gap. Out of Van Vleutin's eye shot, Vollering was mugging just how exhausting it was to hold the Movistar leader's wheel. Nevertheless, Vollering tried her best to come around the former World Champion to take the sprint. It looked like she was going to pull it off, but then sat up completely sprint as Van Vleutin took victory in the first of the Belgium classics.
